Successful Air Cushion Recovery in PA

The McGann & Chester towing crew recently responded to an air cushion recovery off the beaten track in Sewickley, PA. The incident occurred on an unpaved and dirt-covered road in the town outside of Pittsburgh.

Upon arriving at the scene, the team assessed the situation and the environment. A loaded trailer had rolled over onto the path and the road itself was dusty and unpaved. The towing crew realized that the use of air bags and air cushions would be the safest way to upright the loaded trailer.

Utilizing air cushions and air bags during vehicle recoveries allows the crew to safely upright fully loaded trailers in a controlled environment. This helps to reduce additional damage to your cargo and your vehicle. Air cushion recovery is also a lot faster than traditional recovery techniques and is safer for the vehicle and those involved.

The team prepped the rigged vehicle, and used their airbags to load it onto a 53” landoll trailer. The experienced team were able to successfully complete the job with the smart use of air bags and the vehicle was recovered from the dirt road.

Congrats to the team at McGann & Chester for a successful job well done! Keep up the great work out there, team!

The Pittsburgh heavy duty recovery team left the tow company headquarters in Pittsburgh, and drove north up the PA-65 and I-79 to the scene.

The location of the heavy duty recovery was a single-lane goat path, or an unpaved and dirt road. Because of the rugged terrain, a loaded trailer had rolled over on the path. The air cushion recovery team assessed the situation and they realized that offloading was not possible and definitely not the most efficient course of action.

The crew decided to take action by prepping the casualty first. They rigged the vehicle, and to complete the air cushion recovery, they used their airbags to load it onto a 53” landoll trailer. The air cushion recovery crew transported the vehicle out and successfully completed the job.
